A hands-on activity to study the major organs and organ systems of a fish!

Using our innovative model, your students can carry out a simulated dissection using our paper model of a fish (Atlantic Perch). A great way to prepare for a dissection or as an alternative to a real dissection.

Students assemble their easy to make fish model using the colorful parts working alone or in small groups. They build the fish and then add the organs to the model. This model can either be built up in a “reverse dissection” or you can start with it made and take it apart as in a dissection.

The model can be used to identify and study the anatomy of the major body systems. It covers the external anatomy (fins, scales, lateral line), respiratory system (gills, heart), digestive system (oesophagus, stomach, liver, pyloric caeca, intestine), reproductive system (ovary, testes), nervous system (brain) and swim bladder.

The Model Making Kit includes enough materials for students to assemble up to 5 paper models working cooperatively. The comprehensive Teacher Resource Guide included provides illustrated readings, activities, key vocabulary and an assessment, along with teaching opportunities for students to Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend and Evaluate their understanding of the concepts presented.
